Illustration definition: a decoration, interpretation or visual explanation of a text, concept or process,[1] designed for integration in published media, such as posters, flyers, magazines, books, teaching materials, animations, video games and films. An illustration is typically created by an illustrator.
We did a round up of 12 amazing black digital artist and illustrators who are using Instagram to showcase black art to the world. These artists have worked with celebrities, authors and different publications. Their work can also be bought as prints on society6 and various other platforms. In no particular order, here are the top 12 black digital artists & illustrators you should follow on Instagram.
1) Esther Lutandila
Esther Lutandila aka @4everesther’s love for art was born at a young age. She started drawing because her brother was always drawing and she wanted to copy everything he did. Over time she perfected her craft and began doing digital art in 2015. Esther’s art often revolves around Black women because when she started doing digital art, there weren’t many beautiful digital illustrations of Black women.

2) Markus Prime
Markus Prime is a well known and notable name in the Black art space. He’s an artist and digital illustrator/nsfw illustrator. Markus is well known for his recent illustration series ‘Oh nah.’ Since starting the comic,Markus has shot up from 100,000 followers to over 280,000 as at the time of writing this on Instagram.



3) Princess Karibo
Princess Karibo is a self taught Nigerian artist and digital illustrator. She creates pieces which are available as digital prints and often opens up spots for commissioned pieces. To get yourself either of the two from this amazing artist,

3) Yung Yemi
Like his website’s about section reads “Adeyemi Adegbesan is a Toronto based photographic artist whose practice aims to examine the intersectionality of black identity. Reflecting on blackness through pre-colonial – colonial – present day and future timelines, across regions, religions, varying levels of income, and political lines; Adegbesan interrogates the dichotomy of the richness of black experiences with the imposed societal homogeneity of ‘Blackness’. Through his work Adegbesan pulls from these varying elements to create Afro-futuristic portraits that embody history, future, and culture all in one.”
