30 Cassie Braids Hairstyles The Girlies Are Getting Right Now

Cassie braids named after Cassie Ventura are a part side braids, part quick weave, sew in or crochet look that’s trending right now.

Cassie braids are inspired by Cassie’s 2009 partial buzzcut look.

The modern spin on this style features freestyle cornrows that start on one side and end on the other —similar to what you’d see on Lemonade braids, named after Beyoncé’s sixth album— only for this look, they don’t go all the way.

In this post, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Cassie braids.

How to Cassie braids: Quick weave method

Start on freshly washed and stretched product free hair.

Part the hair into two sections.

One part or rather side should have 1/4 of your hair and the other side should have 3/4 of your hair.

The side that has 1/4 of your hair is the side you’ll do your freestyle cornrows on and the side that has 3/4 of your hair is the side you’ll do a quick weave, sew in or crochet look on.

The freestyle bit of this style just means you can choose whatever design your heart desires.

After you’re done with your freestyle cornrows on one side, do chunky cornrows.

Tip: Braid the ends of your freestyle cornrows into the chunky ones as shown below.

The chunky cornrows aka the foundation braids are what will be under the quick weave.

After you put on the cap, apply your glue uniformly over the foundation braids where you’ll lay the tracks and use a blow-dry to dry it down.

Tip 1: Use a concealer on the black wig cap and draw a line that separates the freestyle braids from your foundation braids.

Tip 2: If you want your quick weave hair to be reusable, use a tan cap first, apply the glue then lay styling strips on top to absorb the glue.

You’ll then use a black wig cap and mold it again.

This ensures that no glue is on your hair, makes it easy to see where you’re applying the glue and makes the take down process seamless.

After your cap is dried down, measure the wefts according to the area they’ll go on, apply the salon pro glue on the wefts of your hair and lay them down one by one.

It should look like this 👇🏾.

PS: The use of a blow-dry is not optional. You need the heat to ensure that every weft is laid on properly.

After you’re done laying all your wefts, you’ll cut off the unused part of the cap that’s covering your freestyle braids and lay your edges.

The end result should look like this.

How to Cassie braids: Sew in method with no leave out

Just like in the quick weave method, you’ll start with freshly washed and stretched product free hair.

You’ll then part your hair into two sections, 1/4 of the hair is where the freestyle cornrows will go and 3/4 of the hair is where the foundation braids will go.

The foundation braids are what you’ll sew the hair on.

After you do your foundation braids, put on a black mesh wig cap on your head and use a white thread and needle to sew it into the foundation braids.

PS: The white thread will ensure you don’t cut your hair when it’s time to take down the style.

After you sew in the mesh cap into your foundation braids, take your wefts and sew them into the perimeter of your foundation braids.

This will ensure that your foundation braids and mesh cap are hidden under the sew in when you’re not doing a leave out.

Keep sewing the tracks in alternating between double and single wefts until you’re done.

How to Cassie braids: Crochet method

Just like in the quick weave and sew in method, you’ll start with freshly washed and stretched product free hair.

You’ll then part your hair into two sections.

1/4 of the hair is where the freestyle cornrows will go and 3/4 of the hair is where the foundation braids will go.

The foundation braids are what you’ll crochet the hair on.

Unlike the other two methods where you do chunky braids for the foundation braids, for this method you’ll do beehive cornrows and an anchor braid that will mark where the foundation braids start.

You’ll also do one long cornrow that separates the freestyle braids section from your foundation braids and another one around the hairline.

This is the hair that will be used for the leave out.

After you finish doing your foundation braids, take your crochet hook and start looping in the feather tip crochet hair all around the beehive cornrows.

Tip 1: Only crochet the hair in once to ensure your takedown process will be seamless and you can reuse the hair.

Tip 2: Crochet the hair in, in the direction you want it to lay.

After you’re done crocheting the hair in, undo the leave out cornrow and use a flat iron to blend the hair.
